Historic Wesley Heights

Washington, DC.

This project is a major expansion & renovation of an historic house that preceded the development of the distinctive Wesley Heights neighborhood in the 1930ís.
In this instance, the enlargement of the 1880ís house improves the large lot by upgrading its street presence and enhancing the privacy of the rear garden and pool. Site improvements include a new curb cut to allow a graceful entry drive at the distinctive new entry portico and a new rear terrace that links an existing swimming pool to the new Conservatory. Underpinning created new basement space for gym, spa, laundry, wine cellar, and much needed storage, while new framing of the expanded attic created a family room with views of the monumental city below this high elevation. While the architectural language inside and out honors the traditional details of the historic house, the interiors, furnishings and art collection are refreshingly modern.
