Log Cabin and Guest Houses

Rappahannock County, Virginia

An existing log cabin is expanded as a linear extension of its stone foundations while stepping down the hill towards the river it overlooks in a manner reminiscent of the regionís 19th century grist mills.  Place-making is enhanced by the structureís integration with terraced gardens carved out of the woods and the construction of two new guest houses that abut them, weaving the three elements into an intimate compound.
