McLean Residence

McLean, Virginia

A charming 1930s brick cottage is completely transformed and enlarged to be a substantial house without losing any charm or looking added onto.  Much of the character of the house is imparted by the new wing that engages the hillside garden at the rear, creating a sheltered lower terrace at the ground floor level accessed by all of the principle living spaces, and allowing the master bedroom at the second floor to step out to its own private garden.
