A vacation retreat on the shore of Lake Ontario a few hours east of Toronto is a paring away to bare essentials: a bedroom suite, a study that can double as a guestroom, and a living space that can accommodate family and friends for large gatherings at table. At 1500 sf, this compact house has a minimal presence in this monumental landscape, yet it is hardly overwhelmed by it.
